We were honoured to welcome Sian Edwards, Head of Conducting at the Royal Academy of Music and internationally-renowned conductor to open our spectacular building, the Mary Short School of Music.
This beautiful building has been purpose-built to provide state-of-the-art facilities for learning, teaching, practising and performing music. Our girls will benefit from resources including brand new pianos in the practice rooms, the Seldon Recital Hall, a new recording studio and updated classrooms including a Music Tech Room containing a suite of iMac computers and keyboards. On the day, Sian Edwards was extremely generous with her time, holding a two-hour masterclass with the orchestra as they rehearsed one of their pieces for the Founder’s Concert. Later in the evening our most senior musicians put on a delightful Chamber Concert in the Seldon Recital Hall.
The variety of the music and the extremely high standard of the performances confirmed that a building can inspire students to be their very best. The girls are thrilled with their new facilities and we look forward to expanding the range of musical opportunities that we are able to offer.
