Over the October half-term break, a group of Year 10 students took part in a Spanish exchange trip to Madrid.
Here is an account of the visit from our students:
“On the first day when we arrived, we spent the day with our exchange families, who had organised some activities for us around Madrid. On Sunday some of us went to the Warner Brothers theme park while others went ice-skating and bowling and we all had a great time with our exchanges. For the rest of the week, Colegio Altair, our hosts, organised a programme of trips and visits to give us a taste of Spanish culture. On Monday we went on a tour of Madrid, where we had the chance to see the Royal Palace, the Plaza Mayor, and the Spanish Parliament, as well as one of the main parks in Madrid called Parque del Retiro.
During the week we also had the opportunity of visiting the beautiful city of Toledo, where we visited the cathedral and crossed the river that surrounds the city by zip wire. Segovia was also a highlight of our week in Spain. We saw the impressive Roman Aqueduct and the stunning Alcázar and we even saw the Spanish Prime Minister being filmed walking down the street. Whilst in Madrid, we went to the two main Art Galleries – the Museo del Prado and the Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, where we saw paintings by Goya, Velázquez, and Picasso. Overall, we had an amazing experience practicing the language, discovering the culture and making lifelong friends!”
