This week we held our first Chamber concert evening in the Seldon Recital Hall. The programme featured a range of ensembles and it was wonderful to hear girls perform from all sections of the school, from Year 7 to Year 13.
The concert began with a rousing rendition of ‘Can-Can alla Rossini!’ a piece that was written specifically for St Helen’s Clarinet Choir. This was followed by some well-rehearsed and polished performances from a selection of wind ensembles including Flute Choir, Saxophone Ensemble, Recorder Consort and Flute Quartet. It was wonderful to hear Year 9 sisters Keisha and Keira perform Dvorak’s ‘Slavonic Dance’ as a piano duet for fours hands, and we were also treated to two fantastic Piano Trio performances by composer Frank Bridge. The first featured members of Middle School; Summer, Ariel, and Phoebe, and the second featured our A-Level music students Katie and Nikki, who were also joined by our very own Chemistry teacher Mr Reynish. Both groups gave fantastic performances that were very much enjoyed by the audience and demonstrated an impressive level of musicality. To conclude the evening the newly formed vocal ensemble performed a moving and disciplined rendition of the ‘Irish Blessing’.
We are very proud of the achievements of our students and very lucky to be able to display such a range of instruments and talent across the school. We thank them for their continued dedication and commitment to the Music Department.
