Blue Stockings Joint Production

This year’s joint production with Merchant Taylors’ School was ‘Blue Stockings’ – a thought-provoking play that follows a group of female students from Girton College Cambridge, as they embark on a journey to win the right to graduate and to change the future of education.

The audience commented on how impressive the students were to be able to grapple sensitively and maturely with the themes the play explored, particularly the shocking prejudices that the pioneers of women’s education had to overcome. One audience member said it was “a polished and professional production” whilst another mentioned that it was “an engaging and moving play that is as relevant now as it was then”.

Whilst the atmosphere was tense at times, there were some wonderful moments of humour and wit which were enjoyable and meaningful.  The cast worked sensitively and professionally together and gave outstanding and convincing performances. Before the final performance, one of the actors remarked “this play has changed my life, and I am so proud of what we have accomplished. Thank you, everyone”.
