China in Colour – 2019 Young Photographers’ Competition

Congratulations to Dayna in Year 11 who has won 3rd place in the ‘China in Colour’ single photograph portfolio category (age 14 to 18) in the 2019 Young Photographers’ Competition run by the Institute of Education – Confucius Institute.

Dayna, a keen photographer who was an active member of the Mandarin Club, continues to immerse herself in the Chinese culture and be supported and encouraged by the Mandarin department. This is her third consecutive and successful entry in the competition and we are delighted she has yet again been awarded a prize in recognition of her talent.

Her winning photographs will be on show at two public exhibitions held at the UCL between Tuesday 4th February – Monday 24th February 2020 and again between Monday 4th May – Friday 22nd May 2020. The exhibition is free of charge and open to the public.

‘The first photo is called ‘Wonders of the Stage’ which was taken in Beijing during a cultural show. The photo next to it is called ‘Secret Garden’ which was taken In Shanghai on the rooftop of a building overlooking the city. The next photo is called ‘A Different Perspective’ which was taken in Shanghai. This photo shows how something so simple as a flower wall can be just as beautiful as a building which is shown in the background. The following photo is called ‘Simple Beauty’, which was taken in a park in Xian. This photo shows a porch surrounded by beautiful flowers. ‘The final photo is called ‘Hidden Characters’, which is taken in a local park in Shang-Hai where a man is taking someone’s name and transforming it to art.
