The Addams Family: A Musical Comedy That Delighted and Horrified

St Helen’s and Merchant Taylors’ School came together for our annual joint production. Performing a memorable musical adaptation of the classic TV show and comic strip, The Addams Family.

The musical, directed by Mrs Connell (St Helen’s), featured a talented cast of students from both schools who together brought to life the macabre and eccentric characters of the infamous Addams clan. The musical was a huge success, entertaining and impressing the audience with its witty humour, catchy songs, and stunning production values.

The story focuses on Wednesday Addams, the daughter of Gomez and Morticia, who falls in love with a boy from a normal and respectable family. However, things get complicated when the truth comes out and secrets are revealed resulting in relationships being tested, and chaos ensuing.

The musical was a magnificent showcase of the various students’ talents, both on and off stage. The actors delivered excellent performances, capturing the personalities and quirks of their characters perfectly, and these were supported by a wonderful array of singing and choreographed dancing all accompanied by an incredible live orchestra.

The production team, consisting of students and staff, did a remarkable job in creating the gothic and spooky atmosphere of the Addams Family mansion. The set design, costumes, make-up, and lighting were all superb and transformed the Rowland Brown Hall into a haunted house full of surprises, where the audience was fully immersed in the world of the Addams Family.

Congratulations to everyone involved in this incredible production. It was a great success and demonstrated the creativity, teamwork, and passion for the performing arts within both St Helen’s and Merchant Taylors’ School.
